Christmas time is heeeerrreee. Celebrate with cheeerrrrrrr.

I am exhausted from traveling, working, and other things, but I did get to read on my vacation! WOOHOO! The recommended books below are good for anytime, but I feel, in December especially, one is either very happy-go-lucky or very “down with people”.

The History of Love

If this book doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart I am just not sure what will. By Nicole Krauss, it is an oldie but a goodie. From the overview: A long-lost book reappears, mysteriously connecting an old man searching for his son and a girl seeking a cure for her widowed mother’s loneliness. Leo Gursky taps his radiator each evening to let his upstairs neighbor know he’s still alive. But it wasn’t always like this: in the Polish village of his youth, he fell in love and wrote a book. . . .

Pride, Prejudice and Jasmin Field

If you love Pride and Prejudice and spunky modern women and just funniness all around you will LOVE this book. It’s a quick, fun read by Melissa Nathan that I picked up based on the title. I have never lived to regret that decision. I read it every year and it never fails to delight me and make me laugh. In fact, now that I’ve pulled it out I will probably start rereading it tonight.

Bah Humbug

Bel Canto

Winner of the Orange Prize and best book to throw across the room after finishing this is definitely a must read. It is beautifully written by Ann Patchett and will give you an excuse to cry and shout out BAH HUMBUG ad nauseam if need be.

Under the Tuscan Sun

Really Danita? I hear you saying. Under the Tuscan Sun is a fun, uplifting book. Nothing about it, says Bah Humbug. Well, I say YES, YES IT IS because guess what? YOU aren’t the one running away and living in Italy successfully. BAH HUMBUG
